Analysis of the film poster 'Inception'

Leonard Dicaprio is the U.S.P of this film; you can see this from the format of this poster, his name is in front of film's name.
The unusual slogan also adds interest to the movie. Everyone has individual minds that are seen as a place of safety not crime, this makes this film seem unique.
We can identify the genre of this film through the character facing backwards in the centre of the poster holding a gun, this suggests this is a crime thriller. However, the way the character is standing neutral in a harsh flood represents this could also have a psychological thriller subgenre.
The ‘Dark knight’ is a very famous film, by including the detail that this film was made by the same director will attract people who enjoyed the ‘Dark Knight’ film.
The picturesque skyscraper buildings could be an example of iconography towards the audience, as it conveys a huge city most likely to be New York.
The typeface of the text is very effective because the red colour is a juxtaposition to the grey and blue background; this conveys a sense of mystery and danger.
By rendering the movie so that it is compatible to show in IMAX Theatres, is a very profitable example of new media practices as the film will endorse more money as it costs more to watch movies in these certain theatres than average cinemas.

Moodboard of our Thriller

This moodboard represents elements of our Thriller. For example, an abandoned house, which is going to be our location and the pictures of the brain as our story is about a girl with schizophrenia. Also, the colours of the moodboard are typical colours for a thriller, as black and grey represent darkness.

Year 13 Talk (Hints and Tips)

During this week a group of Year 13 A2 Media students came into our class to help us start the planning of our thrillers, as they did the same thing last year. They broke down the Advice into "DO'S" and "DON'T".
They advised us to get into groups that would best benefit the work, rather than personal relationships. They claimed that the people who did this got the higher grades as the other groups found it as just a "fun" task.
They also told us that planning is vital, we should start to plan our ideas now rather than leaving them later in the course, people who did this rushed their work and were not credited. When it comes to the filming the 2 minute opening to a Thriller; we have to make sure everything is kept the same in cuts, silly mistakes can be made such as differential weather, different costumes and different locations these all make the piece look unprofessional.
Props are very crucial the Year 13's explained, when selecting props we have to make sure it suits the genre and intended effect.. not to subvert it. For example, using a butter knife in a Crime thriller would look silly and would not suit the piece.

They summarised the talk by saying that this a great opportunity for us to express our skills and get creative, it will get hard and stressful at times they explained, but it will be rewarding and our efforts will be recognised.

Codes and Conventions of a Thriller

Codes and Conventions of a thriller done in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010

Initial ideas

When thinking of ideas for our Thriller we decided that we wanted to think of something unique, that isnt cliche. We were trying to think of good locations, and as a group we thought that the Secret Nuclear bunker in Kelvedon Hatch would be a good location. We researched and emailed them asking if it would be possible to film there.                      Below is the email asking for permission:

However, once they had replied and said that we could film we, as a group thought the location was great but found it hard to come up with an appropriate storyline. We would also of faced problems with filming as we would of had to film it all in one day as they were expecting us to pay each time we were filming.
Therefore, we have thought of other initial ideas and other locations and are currently working on another storyline and creating a mood board.
